3rd & Gilman Studios is an independent film and video production company in Berkeley, California.

We specialize in development, principal photography, and post production editing services for film projects that embrace the necessity for art making and human connection. Our team takes pride in our ability to fulfill a wide variety of filmmaking roles ranging from creative to the most technical. We love working with clients and fellow storytellers who are passionate about their work and unafraid to go against tradition.

Our offices are located right on the train tracks off Gilman Ave. in West Berkeley. The versatile space offers multiple full service editing suites, an analog photography darkroom, and a production-friendly layout that can be converted into a portrait studio or community screening room at a moment’s notice.

Ivan Narez-Hurtado

Cinematographer / Editor / Analog Specialist

Ivan grew up in nearby Brentwood where he began making films as a teenager due to his passions for skating and community building. By the time he graduated high school he had already distributed multiple skate videos internationally, which motivated him to continue progressing in his craft. 20+ years later and Ivan continues to grow his filmography as a documentarian, cinematographer, and post-production specialist. His previous three feature documentaries (Valo 4, Valo 5, and We are Valo 6) were distributed by The Orchard and 1091 Pictures. As a Mexican-American and fluent Spanish speaker, he has shown a particular interest in covering subjects that emphasize Hispanic heritage. His photography work has been featured with the Harvey Milk Photography Center, Find Rangers Camera Club , and San Francisco International Film Festival.

Sandra Garcia

Cinematographer / Producer / Editor

Sandra has traveled to every continent around the world except for Antarctica as a producer, cinematographer/photographer and editor. During her 10+ year career, she has worked on a variety of projects including documentaries, music videos, fiction shorts, and commercial/industry projects for clients such as Nat Geo, Audi, and L’Oreal. Sandra graduated from San Francisco State with a degree in journalism, and is focused on telling stories that center women, social movements, and underrepresented communitites. Sandra has filmed documentary work that has screened at festivals including Big Sky Doc Fest (My Little Hilton, 2021) and Urbanworld (At the Wall, 2021).
